Get accredited to become a teacher of Swimming and Water Safety with Just Swimming Nunawading. We’re all about the love of water and teaching people how to swim well. Facilitating  AUSTSWIM courses each term means we get to see others start a rewarding career that also offers flexibility and a fun environment while working with children. Conducted by industry leaders in swimming and water safety, our AUSTSWIM course provides experienced presenters who will guide you through the process of how to complete the AUSTSWIM course and will be there to assist you every step of the way in becoming a certified swimming instructor.

During the AUSTSWIM course you’ll learn how to plan and deliver a swimming lesson, water familiarisation, buoyancy and mobility, principals of movement in the water, teaching safer diving skills and most importantly how to be an effective swimming teacher. Check out the to see what’s involved in being a swimming instructor and if this career path interests you.

AUSTSWIM trainers present our 2-day course at Just Swimming Nunawading headquarters, Fraser Place Forest Hill 3131. To participate in our AUSTSWIM course, you must be 16 years of age and can commence teaching swimming from 17 years of age.

Our AUSTSWIM course requires a face to face attendance over two full days with each day broken into a theory classroom-style component in the morning and in-water practical experience in the afternoon.

To assist in full completion of our AUSTSWIM course, Just Swimming Nunawading also runs the required CPR qualification course and will support the practical supervised teaching hours essential for accreditation. A working with children check is also mandatory.

If working with children and teaching lifesaving skills interests you, head to the AUSTSWIM educators in aquatics website for more information or email us at

It is not a pre-requisite to complete CPR before enrolling however, we do recommend candidates hold this certificate before undertaking on the job /in-pool training. To reach accreditation, the AUSTSWIM certificate cannot be issued without a current CPR.

Once you have completed the 2-day AUSTSWIM course with us and have your CPR qualification, we’ll assist you with in-pool hours for your accreditation.

All candidates should wear comfortable clothing for the theory sessions and a drink bottle. For the practical in-water sessions where you will be in the pool, you’ll need to bring suitable swimwear, towel and goggles.

Most importantly, don’t forget your smile and a can-do attitude!

Everyone learns at a different pace and has a varied background with both swimming and working with children.  For this reason, the time it takes to become competent ranges from person to person.

We recommend completing your practical supervised teaching hours as soon as possible following on from the two-day AUSTSWIM course. This assists in retaining information learnt and can see you achieve your hours faster.

We’re always on the lookout for fun and bubbly teachers who love water as much as we do.
